Woodsongs

If you're like me, you like acoustic folk and Americana and other grassroots music. If you're also like me, you like live performances. If you're also like me, you like discovering new music.

And if you're like me, you like free stuff!

So if you're like me, you'll like Woodsongs, the Website for the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, where you'll find the Woodsongs Show Archive: audio and video of nearly all of the performances on the show.

(The only bad thing is that the audio and video is in Windows Media format...)

Time's Top 100 Novels

So, Time magazine has come out with a list of what they pick as the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.

Turns out that I've read more of them than I figured:

Animal Farm by George Orwell
The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon
The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
Neuromancer by William Gibson
1984 by George Orwell
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Ubik by Philip K. Dick
Watchmen by Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons

All of which are good books, which would lead me to believe that the other 91 books on the list are at least decent as well. But best? Hmmm. While Ubik is a good book, there are several Philip K. Dick novels that I'd rank above it: A Scanner Darkly, The Man in the High Castle, and VALIS, just to name three.

The 3-Variable Funny Test

the Wit
(61% dark, 30% spontaneous, 15% vulgar)
your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm
talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.
